GCC CROSS-COUNTRY STANDOUT RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD

Deptford Twp. – Gloucester County College Roadrunner Tracy Dobkowski, of Thorofare, was named outstanding female athlete by the National Association for Girls & Women in Sport (NAGWS). Dobkowski, a graduate of West Deptford High School, was honored at the “National Girls and Women in Sports Day” at Seton Hall University on February 7. Each college in New Jersey is eligible to nominate one female athlete for the award.
Dobkowski, a sophomore who plans to transfer to Rutgers University—Camden for nursing in the fall, will leave GCC with a resume filled of impressive stats. She currently has a 3.86 grade point average and has earned both All American and Academic All-American honors in cross county and track. In addition to being a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and named to the President and Dean’s List, Dobkowski works part-time as a lifeguard at River Winds in West Deptford.
In 2008, Dobkowski helped to lead the Roadrunners to the region cross country championship, earning All-Region and Northeast District cross-country honors. She finished 28th at the NJCAA National Cross Country Championships helping the team to a solid sixth-place finish. During the 2009 track season, Dobkowski propelled the team to a fourth-place finish in the national championships by reaching the awards podium in five events, including the 10,000m, 1,500m, 4x800m, 4x400m, and the 3000m steeplechase. This past cross-country season, she again found herself at the awards podium several times earning All-Region 19 cross-country honors as well as All-Northeast District honors. At the 2009 NJCAA National Championships, Dobkowski place 14th earning All-American honors.
“I only started running during my senior year of high school because of a knee injury,” said Dobkowski, a former soccer and lacrosse player. “I received an academic scholarship to GCC and decided this is where I wanted to run because I felt comfortable here. Coming to GCC opened a lot of doors for me and was a good way to prepare for a four-year school, academically and athletically. I’m really proud of receiving the Woman Athlete of the Year award.”
