Day 1 Review:
After the first day of play, it looks like Gloucester CC and Brookdale CC will battle it out for this year's Region XIX Championship. Gloucester advanced all their players to the final round of play and Brookdale will appear in 7 of the 9 final round matches on Sunday. Play is scheduled to begin at 10am at Gloucester County College, weather permitting.
On Saturday, play was moved indoors to the Mercer County Indoor Tennis Center. Gloucester started strong in the doubles matches as Christina Bell (Cherry Hill East H.S./Cherry Hill, NJ) and Ali Crozier (Delsea Regional H.S./Franklinville, NJ) teamed to defeat the 1st doubles team of Huggan and Britton from Ocean CC. This match was important to build confidence as Bell and Crozier lost to this same team in a dual match only six days prior. The Roadrunners played some of their best tennis to finish wiht a 6-0, 6-4 win.
In the singles, Crozier was in the spotlight again as she faced top seed Krystina Holsman from Mercer CC. Crozier and Holsman had split matches during the regular season. Again, Gloucester's Crozier was up to the challenge this time winning a grueling first set 7-5 and then pulling away for a 6-1 win in the second set. Soph Sara Wilkins (Williamstown H.S./Williamstown, NJ) won an important match against Brookdale's Michelle Cheng. This was the only match that featured players from Gloucester and Brookdale. On Sunday, Gloucester and Brookdale will sqaure off in 7 of the 9 finals matches.
